Fiddler on the Roof
From the story of a humble Russian Jewish milkman comes one of the best-loved musicals of all time: Fiddler on the Roof. As Tevye prepares to marry off his three daughters, he soon realizes that the traditions his family has relied upon for decades are changing in ways he could never expect. Will he accept his daughters’ choices of mates or will he put his foot down? Musical highlights from the show include “Matchmaker, Matchmaker” and “Sunrise, Sunset,” enduring showtunes whose beauty is enhanced by the context of the whole musical. Now celebrating its 40th year, Fiddler comes to town as the first show in Broadway in Knoxville’s 2004-2005 season, which also includes Miss Saigon, Crazy for You and Grease. Broadway quality musicals in Knoxville? Now there’s a tradition in the making. (Paige M. Travis)
Fiddler on the Roof • Friday, Dec. 10, 8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 11, 2 & 8 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 12, 2 & 7 p.m. • Knoxville Civic Auditorium • $22-$60 • Order by phone at 656-4444 or online at broadwayinknoxville.com.

Habitat for Humanity Holiday Cards
It’s been said that it’s better to do a good deed for someone and never let them know you were behind the benevolence. This holiday season, we say screw that! When you buy holiday cards from Habitat for Humanity, you’ll be letting everyone on your list know what a selfless angel you are. These special cards state that a donation has been made in the recipient’s name, making them feel all warm and gushy inside, all the while reinforcing your saintliness. All kidding aside, the proceeds of this card sale go to one of the best causes out there: building houses for those in need. While you’re cozied by the fire in your own home during the holidays, you’ll know you’ve helped a family get one step closer to having their own four walls. Hmm, maybe anonymous kindness is the way to go. Pick them up at the below locations or call 523-3539 to order by phone. (Molly Kincaid)
Habitat for Humanity Holiday Cards • West Town Mall and Knoxville Center • Every Saturday in December • $10 per card or six for $50.

The Remedy Session
On the occasional weekend evening, on the way to a favorite Old City watering hole, one witnesses a gaggle of younguns loitering outside of Old City Java. These are the cool high school kids—edgy with all the right piercings and uniformly clad in black. One may also think, green with envy that their weekends consisted of watching X-Files with the fam, that these angsty teens must magnetize here for reasons other than the mocha lattes. After giving the Remedy Session a listen, one might figure out the phenomenon. This South Florida indie rock band features emotional lyrics paired with dramatic guitar melodies. Judging from their active website membership, they already have quite a following throughout the Southeast, and they’re sure to pick up a few more Knoxville fans this weekend. (Molly Kincaid)
The Remedy Session with The Shape and Goodnight Opus • Saturday, Dec. 11 • Old City Java • 7 p.m. • $5 • All ages.
