Saturday Night on the Town
Last year’s Saturday Night on the Town introduced a fine young performer to Knoxville audiences: Jason Mraz folk-rapped his way into our hearts via this popular street festival that’s only growing in scope. Now with three stages of music—provided by The River 100.3, WIVK 107.7 and Wild 98.7—SNOTT offers diverse musical entertainment for our diverse citizenry. This year’s major players: rock band Dexter Freebish, newcomer (and recent Bonnaroo act) Donavon Frankenreiter; country stars Chely Wright and Billy Dean; and various rap artists and DJs. A superior destination for people-watching and fair food, SNOTT thrives on our collective desire to gather outdoors with our fellow man and have a great time. (Paige M. Travis)

Blooms Days Garden Festival and Marketplace
This annual gathering of green-thumb gurus celebrates the bounty of summer as well as local music and crafts. Everything from sculpted gourd art to handmade soaps and, of course, hard-to-find specialty plants will be for sale. Kids can learn about our creepy-crawly friends in the insect zoo while adults get garden-savvy in a multitude of workshops like “Roses for Wimps” and “Flower-Free Gardens.” All the while, the stage will be rockin’ with Red-Haired Mary, Vacationist League, and Misty River on Saturday. Sunday’s lineup features the Farragut Pops Ensemble, Farr Horizons, and Maggie Longmire with Free Soil Farm. So don’t be a wallflower, it’s time to get your green on! (Molly Kincaid)

One Vision Plaza is ready for its close-up. At the intersection of Gay Street and Summit Hill Avenue, the complex will serve as the new home for WDVX and the Knoxville Visitor Center among other uniquely homespun organizations. The street party will begin at 6 p.m. with Robinella and the CCstringband, R.B. Morris, Todd Steed and Blue Moon Rising on hand to usher another step in the right direction for the renewal of center city. (Clint Casey)

Secret City Festival
The name may have changed over the years, but the festival has only grown in size. The Secret City Festival, held at and around the civic center grounds at Bissell Park, will be jam-packed with activities for the entire family. This year’s theme, “From the ‘40s to the Future,” aims to highlight Oak Ridge’s beginnings during World War II, while celebrating the unique aspects that still make the Atomic City great. Enjoy music all weekend long, including a concert by the Grammy-nominated bluegrass newcomers Bering Strait who happen to hail from Oak Ridge’s sister city Obninsk, Russia, on Friday evening. Come back Saturday to enjoy Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees The Shirelles and The Platters. The weekend also includes arts and crafts, antiques, the inaugural Secret City Film Festival (A Best Bet), the Old Ponderosa petting zoo, a three-on-three Round Ball Classic, and garden tours. Sounds like the Secret City Festival won’t be a secret for long. (Nick Corrigan)
