Come One, Come All

You voted, now enjoy!

April may be the cruelest month, or so said T.S. Eliot. It’s the month of showers that inevitably give way to May flowers. It’s the height of spring, the most temperate month of the year. And it’s also the month we publish the results of our annual Best of Knoxville readers’ poll (drum roll, please).

Every year, we seek your input on things Knoxville. Our categories honor everything from businesses that meet our fundamental needs to the finest entertainment delights that our little city has to offer. The results are meticulously tabulated by a supercomputer specifically designed to chew up the votes and spit out a list of winners. (Actually, we use a roomful of interns, armed with pencils and paid in beer. But the supercomputer thing sounds better, no?) We sincerely thank all those who took the time to fill out our ballot, a task much easier said than done. It goes without saying that being voted the cream of Knoxville’s crop by readers of Metro Pulse is a stupendous honor (much like winning the lottery, except without all those burdensome cash prizes). Our readers are an especially shrewd, discerning lot, and our vigilance in polling them is peerless.

Which isn’t to say that a few cheats don’t slip through the cracks. With each passing year, cheating becomes increasingly creative, the ballot stuffing more inspired. If you know that your business should’ve won, then there’s probably a good reason it didn’t. Three words: cheaters never win. Well, seldom. Still, there are always a few unexpected results. In such instances, we respect your opinions and we tell it like it is. Some categories are more predictable than clockwork, but it’s the bombshells that make the results worth looking forward to.

This year also marks the first full year of Metro Pulse under new ownership. We’ve undergone some noticeable æsthetic changes and listened to your input, adding columns, cartoons, and editorial content with the idea of bringing you a higher caliber newspaper every week.

We welcome you to our celebration with your winners, your runners-up, and your honorable mentions tomorrow night, April 30, at the Foundry (formerly Strohaus), adjacent to the World’s Fair Park. The festivities begin promptly at 8 p.m. and are scheduled to conclude at midnight, when we kick the cruelest month into the dustbin of history and move on to greater things. The theme of this year’s Best of Knoxville Party is a nod to the 1982 World’s Fair, the affair that produced that architectural wonder the Sunsphere, and memories of a simpler world. A light sampling of food and drinks will be provided by area restaurants; a semi-formal awards ceremony will honor the chosen few; and the Lonesome Coyotes will fill the room with rock from the decade of decadence. Clear your social calendar. It’s Best of Knoxville Time in Tennessee.
