The Plot Thickens

I read with interest Phil Hamby's comment in Ear to the Ground [Dec.5] that Pamela Reed joined the Society of Professional Journalists under the name Ashley Rhea and told him that the SPJ didn't object.

In fact, anyone who professes to be a journalist can join SPJ by filling out a membership application and paying the dues. No background check is conducted.

However, we members of the East Tennessee professional chapter have never encountered Ms. Rhea/Reed at a chapter meeting. Also, the national headquarters of SPJ has no record of a membership in the name of either Ashley Rhea or Pamela Reed.

Thank you for letting me set the record straight.

Soap the Presses!

How could you possibly see fit to run a nasty, dirty-talking letter like the one you ran in the Nov. 14 Metro Pulse from some Jim Wayland? Just because Wayland expresses himself in that manner doesn't mean you have to print it. Makes me think that that is the way you talk at Metro Pulse, i.e., high class and refined.

Kisses to Zak

Having just read his column [Yikes!, Nov. 21], I just wanted to say to Mr. Weisfeld: I think I love you!

Your column gave me more laughs than I have had in a long time. Perfection.

Thank you,

Don't Forget the Hotspots

Hey! An article about Green Knoxville [Cover story, Dec. 5] and no mention of the brownfields? My fave is the Witherspoon Superfund site. Entire buried radioactive train cars must have SOME effect on the environment. As we say 'round these parts, "...they call it Vestal, home of the rebel, but we just call it 'Little Chernobyl'....".
