Museum of Appalachia Anvil Shoot will take place on July 4. Last year, the anvil was fired by Howard H. Baker, Jr., formerly Ronald Reagan's Chief of Staff. This year's shooter is a deeply held secret, one that you can discover during the festival, which will also feature old time music, exhibits on rural pioneer America, and the Mark Twain family cabin. The museum is in Norris and can be reached at 494-0514.

The Third Annual Furniture Society Conference and Exhibition will be at the Appalachian Center for Crafts in Smithville June 17 through June 19. The conference will involve all major craft areas, like glass, metal, clay, fiber, and wood, and the exhibition of all of the winning pieces of hand-crafted, studio furniture will run through September 26. This conference was held in New York and San Francisco the last couple of years, so this event could be a rare treat for those who prefer to avoid big-city madness. (615-597-6801)

The Atlantis Music Conference—4 Days, 10-plus Venues, 25 Panels, and over 170 Showcases—will invade Atlanta August 11-14. For more info, visit www.atlantismusic.com or call 770-499-8600.
