Nightlife: Gay Clubs

back to the Nightlife directory

The Carousel
1501 White Ave. * 522-6966
Open seven nights a week, The Carousel is a local favorite in both the homosexual and the heterosexual communities. While you can see shows any time after 11:30 p.m. on any night of the week other than Monday or Thursday, shows of particular interest include India Dupree's "Viva Variety" on Tuesdays and Talent Night on Wednesdays. These shows usually consist of female impersonators showing their love for their favorite pop diva in the most extravagant manner possible. Cover charges at Fort Sanders Carousel range from $1 to $5.

The Electric Ballroom
1213 Western Ave. * 525-6724
While it seems like it's out in the middle of nowhere, the Electric Ballroom is actually just a very short drive from downtown. Shows in the past have included: Female Oil Wrestling, Tina Chandler's Drag Show, the Chippendales, and Hollywood's Hottest Bodies—Exotic Male Dance Revue. The Ballroom also features a giant dance floor that is almost always hoppin' on Wednesday through Saturday nights. It also occasionally features mainstream rock concerts.

The Rainbow Room
131 S Central St. * 522-6610
Located in the Old City, The Rainbow Room is open for lunch, dinner, and snacks from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m., and offers dancing from Thursday to Saturday beginning at 9 p.m. with valet parking.
